That’s pretty much what people said would happen back then.

Technology@lemmy.world•Someone finally did it: a high-end TV with a DisplayPort connection actually is coming this year, including 4K 180Hz supportEnglish
1·17 days agoI got one a few years ago that had a setting to automatically go to a specified input when the TV started (similar to how normal TVs used to work).
My only mistake was leaving the TV connected to the network, as it updated and caused some hassle recently.
You only need disguises for the people who they meet when they return.
I find the belt buckle situation convincing.
That makes enough sense that it must be the answer, but I feel that it doesn’t really work as the author intended, since that is a huge complaint about it. They just said that it was blessed among cocktails.

Technology@lemmy.world•AI and bots have officially taken over the internetEnglish
5·24 days agoAI and bots have officially taken over the Internet
This title makes no logical sense. An official statement about a thing has to come from the entity that is in charge of that thing. So, if AI and bots have taken over the internet, any official announcement would logically have to come from the AI or bots.
This meaning drifts from the cocktail to the person/game… But I don’t recall a meaning of bloody mary where the person hopes they die soon. Is this a reference that I don’t get? Or is it some sort of alcohol-related depression? Because I feel like they just lost sight of their metaphor.
I also feel like there is a missed opportunity to have the entire prayer just list ingredients. You know, like bloody mary full of vodka tabasco be with you blessed are you among cocktails and blessed be your fruit or vegetable or whatever, tomato juice.
Unfortunately, I think Trump would realize if he had a female POC in his staff.

Technology@lemmy.world•Public restrooms in Osaka to get in-stall video screens with adsEnglish
8·28 days agoPretty sure I saw advertisements on screens in bathrooms in American nightclubs and bars over twenty years ago. I think they didn’t have one per cubicle, though.
I don’t know if it has a base designation, but there is a way to represent natural numbers without 0. You just use 1, and numbers are distinguished by the number of 1s. So you’d count 1 11 111 1111 11111 and so on.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sam Altman Thanks Programmers for Their Effort, Says Their Time Is OverEnglish
29·1 month agoI wonder if he wrote that post character-by-character.
But actually typing out the code is the least difficult part of programming, once you’ve been doing it for five or ten years. You have to understand the code that is already there. You have to decide the behavior, either way. You have to review the code, either way. Design the local and overall architecture. Design interfaces and APIs.
The fact that he thinks typing out new code took so much effort basically means that he was never a decent programmer. His statement betrays that he doesn’t even understand what’s difficult. People with his level of understanding of a topic shouldn’t broadcast their ignorance publicly.
Ooh! Now do it in base π.

444·2 months agoThe guy is not “so close to getting it.” He just appears that way because we don’t have the same bias he has. He’s actually quite far from getting it and he probably won’t even believe the truth when people explain it to him.
If he was close to getting it, he’d have gotten it already.

142·2 months agoOne woman described how she had to wear ear protection after ear surgery and a guy removed that to talk to her from behind. She was in pain for 2 days afterwards.
Sounds like she suffered consequences while the man who harmed her suffered no consequences.
We should be able to easily call police and sue for damages in such situations.
I would never leave any clues like that which could be used to lead police to the person who cut their brake lines.

Technology@lemmy.world•Ask AI: I want to wash my car. The car wash is 50 meters away. Should I walk or drive?English
43·2 months agoEven if it’s not entirely faked, you can instruct an AI to give you wrong answers to your questions. So unless you can see the entire conversation history, you can’t make any conclusions about a single response.
I imagine if somebody started a thread here that asked the same question, but said, “Wrong answers only,” people would find a lot of evidence that humans aren’t capable of figuring this out, either.

7·2 months agoYou were using the phrase correctly. “They can’t compete with it,” is the standard way of saying what you intended to say.
I was playing off of the normal meaning of your statement to make a turn of phrase. In other words, I am intentionally using weird phrasing, and placing it next to your normal phrasing for humor and impact.

Ignoring everything else, “washed up” only means someone has lost their previous high status. It has nothing to do with age. You can be a washed up child actor.
