52·1 month agoDude. Same. Windows 11 at work is fucking awful.
My laptop idles at 12 out of 16 gigs of RAM free.
Right clicking takes dozens of seconds, especially on a network share.
Did IT remove a letter mapped network drive? Haha! Fuck you! Windows hangs indefinitely if you open Windows explorer. You gotta fuck around in the registry to remove that shit.
The only good thing about windows 11 is tabs in Windows explorer. Which MacOS and Linux have had for a gazillion years.

Dental insurance: “Hahahaha! Fuck you! The maximum we’ll pay for your care in a year is $XXX! Also, we don’t cover anything other than cleanings!”

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•All this shitposting is making me hungry
1·4 months agoI can’t say I’ve heard of that before. I’m glad you enjoy it.
I got so frustrated trying to use Word to write a document at work that I just gave up and wrote the whole damn thing in LaTeX. Lots of nested bulleted lists (or worse, numbered lists) and Word do not play nicely.
Sucks to be the guy who has to edit it when I’m gone.
My wild guess is that he’s sitting at a desk with a whole bunch of RAM which is super expensive.

101·4 months agoLower "L"s and upper "i"s are basically identical in Calibri. It’s a sans serif font that’s hard to read for everyone. Calibri is an shit font and never should have been used on any government documents.
I’ve never seen an ad on my car’s screen. My brother’s car from 2013 has a backup camera, and that car literally cannot communicate to any server that could serve ads.
If car companies wanted to put ads on screens, they wouldn’t need an excuse to put in a screen, they’d just do it. But they wouldn’t do that, because ads are a safety hazard and they’d have their pants sued off. I can’t even connect a new Bluetooth device to my car (pressing 1 button) unless the parking brake is applied. Stellantis is in hot water for their braindead attempt at “ads” in their cars, and that’s just a pop-up that shows up when the car is stopped.
Not even Google maps advertises to me when I use Android Auto, and ads are Google’s thing

Technology@lemmy.world•Marketing Doesn't Work on NerdsEnglish
101·7 months agoThis article is about software tools, not those other things.
I build rockets that go on satellites and scientific missions. I enjoy my job; I find it extremely interesting and often quite fulfilling. In the grand scheme of things, I really wouldn’t change much. But like my boss said on the first day of the job, “This job is awesome, but it’s not worth doing for free.” If you told me I could still enjoy the same level of comfort at home that my job affords me, but I wouldn’t be paid, I would quit. I’d rather be at home reading, spending time with my family, playing around with my hobbies, etc.
My wife is a nurse. She loves her job, but she wouldn’t do it for free either. Her love for the job prevents her from quitting when she’s abused by the public for 12 hours, the pay makes her come in.
Some people are motivated by enjoyment alone to do jobs for free, but many are not. Or the thing they love doesn’t help society in a meaningful way. Or they just don’t want their hobby to turn into a job. I don’t think there’s a big enough overlap to have a functioning society.
