The overwhelming majority of Youtube visitors use the official app and even those who use a browser don’t have an adblock 88% of the time if my memory serves me right. So no, it’s not adblock.

I haven‘t watched this video either but Rossmann is an extremely pedantic guy who can be extremely biased when talking about things that rub him the wrong way personally. His take about sponsorblock was almost as baffling as Piratesoftware‘s take about SKG and that says something.
I‘ve noticed the algorithm drizzles a good portion of smaller creators on my front page in recent months and that part is growing. I am talking about videos with just a few thousand or few hundred views that make up roughly 10-15 percent of my recommendations or so.
I think Youtube is diversifying exposure so you don‘t see the same faces you‘ve seen the past 15 years as often and new channels get a chance to grow. I am guessing Youtube doesn‘t want to be too dependent on the same huge channels anymore either.
Of course that means huge creators are calling to the pitch forks and torches because they lose revenue but why should I care? Most of them are rich anyway and don‘t necessarily produce better videos than someone with their phone in their garage workshop or a bunch of college students in their dorms. If anything it feels more like the old Youtube again.
There is a lot wrong with Youtube but I couldn‘t care less about huge channels being forced to slim down or try harder.
Eventually they‘ll go full circle (literally) and come back to scrolls.
The best US propaganda has always been the arts. Music, movies, literature and games. Replace it with AI and you get the type of slopaganda that doesn‘t really work. Especially since everyone can do it. The USA is just paving it‘s way further into irrelevancy.
Good read. Mass surveillance is a sure way into fascism. Not only because it’s critical infrastructure for a fascist dystopia but it conveniently destroys trust. Trust in the current government, trust in democracy and trust in each other. It divides and doesn’t bring any benefit.
It‘s terrible and sad. Even more so because AI still gets things wrong all the time.
Tinkering in this way with someone‘s work should be regarded as copyright infringement regardless of what their TOS say. It shouldn‘t be allowed and Youtube should pay up big time for this theft. But of course this is probably not how it‘s going to be handled because Google is mega rich and the law does not apply to AI somehow.
I hope the whole platform shuts down. Roblox is a shit stain on the online gaming industry and that‘s saying something. Everyone will be better off without it.
When your mom briefly mentions hers and you realize your conversations have been recorded for god knows how long.
We’re far more than that. We are having a conversation, transmitting our thoughts through space and time. It’s like telepathy, really. Word salad machines could never pull that off.
For example, in China the film industry censors LGBT-related films. Filmmakers must resort to finding funds from international investors such as the “Ford Foundations” and or produce through an independent film company.
Good read. Fuck censorship. Fuck the CCP.
Good on you for making that realization. Most TikTok users I encounter do not have that level of self-reflection. I‘m not sure if I would have it if I ever installed it. I mean when you‘re constantly surrounded by the algorithmic equivalent of yes-men on TikTok, any opposition outside your bubble must look like a glitch. It seems pretty tough to break out of that.
It doesn‘t know that it doesn‘t know because it doesn‘t actually know anything. Most models are trained on posts from the internet like this one where people rarely ever just chime in to admit they don‘t have an answer anyway. If you don‘t know something you either silently search the web for an answer or ask.
So since users are the ones asking ChatGPT, the LLM mimics the role of a person that knows the answer. It only makes sense AI is a „confidently wrong“ powerhouse.
Hell, he‘s the single main driver. What stupid times we live in.
They‘ll try again if they succeed in this.
Did you read the second part of my comment and thought about the implications?
I actually doubt Google wants shitty newspapers that are stuck in the last century to dictate how the internet works. Next step is that Google has to show them in the results and pay them on top or stop operating entirely. They won‘t stop until they‘re either bankrupt or the internet is toast.
Germany is the biggest economy in Europe and if this somehow passes it could spill over to the EU commission in no time. The Brussels effect could then take care of the rest. Laughing off fascist laws because they do not affect you right now is exactly the reaction fascists like them want you to have so they can corner you.
It horrifies me as a German. They also get titles, descriptions and comments wrong all the time. It legitimately doesn’t work.
