You can label it whatever you want. There are going to be API fees or development costs for AI, so whatever box they want to put it under.

But are the AI issues cheaper than the corporate infrastructure around hiring and paying employees and losing the occasional customer? If AI is more profitable, they don’t care. The only thing that’s mattered for decades now is what the bottom line says, no matter the cost.

I find it’s the speeders, tailgaters, and the infuriating few that can’t seem to manage to go at the prevailing speed that cause the waves in traffic. The rest is structural - merges, construction, lane reductions, etc. The aforementioned all cause the slowdowns because they move quickly, traffic tends to follow, and end up constantly hitting their brakes riding the ass of the slower traffic. That starts a wave that ends up with traffic stopping when density is high enough.

You can’t control others moving slower than you want, bitching about lane campers changes nothing, but managing a speed/spacing that allows little or no braking does wonders to keep things moving. If only people would bother to do so.

A driving test isn’t necessarily a test of skill, it’s a test of checking boxes that gets thrown out the window for many people as they continue driving. You can be a complete moron while driving but still parallel park and use a turn signal properly for a test. If you want to weed out more bad drivers you need harder testing and greater enforcement, just getting a retest of the same shitty test isn’t gonna work, but nobody really wants that because it means more tickets and harder testing for everyone.

Source: me. I had an incredibly stubborn aged parent who absolutely should not have had a license for multiple reasons but continued to drive. They were re-tested a couple of times because of incidents and still passed. It took letters from family and a physician to have the RMV suspend their license, and even then they didn’t want to.
