Yeah, a UK friend of mine mentioned that it is meant to prevent kids from playing hooky (ditch school). Meanwhile in Canada, we’re free range children.
It does probably depend on the school location.

Manufacturers did give up on that relatively quick. 3DS was a thing around that time too.
I’ve had some while I was there, it was like beef but more tender, very good.
