I don’t think that’s true, the faces are different. One is higher than the other, different beards, slightly different head tilt, etc

Technology@lemmy.world•'What a great way to kill your community': Discord users are furious about its new age verification checks — and are now hunting for alternativesEnglish
1311·2 months agoGood.
Discord is overused for help forums and wikis, which makes them extremely difficult to search and dependent upon third party software to be maintained. I hope this will force people away from that behaviour and back to good old fashioned messageboards that have been working just fine since at least the 80s
True, but that may be indicative of other safety issues that are not as obvious.
Also, if the Biblical god existed, supporting or worshiping it would be an incredibly immoral thing to do. Yahweh is perhaps the most vile and evil character in all of literature. It’s hard to imagine anything more evil.
No need, it’s already part of it and has been for centuries.
Remember how the Catholic church raped kids and protected pedophiles? It’s not just Catholicism.

Internet forums have been a thing since for decades, and they will continue long after Reddit and Lemmy are forgotten

I have an old Radio from the 50s - big wooden piece of furniture with a turntable and everything. The plug on that thing is absolutely terrifying, super flimsy and so small you have to almost touch the prongs to plug it in.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Man posts his incorrect opinion online
8·3 months agoNo, this map is reductive at best. Mostly it’s just complete bullshit though.
You can actually just color in a map any way you want and claim the colors mean things, and odds are there are people out there that will believe you.

Technology@lemmy.world•The new Microsoft copilot key is impossible to properly remap.English
4·3 months agoI use the the ‘right click button’ literally every single day. It’s super useful for not having to move between the mouse and keyboard for tasks.
Also, this is on Linux, and I think it’s fair to say that the key has evolved to become a fairly standard part of keyboards and operating systems. Just because MS were the first ones to use it doesn’t give them some kind of say control over the idea, at least beyond the scope of their own hardware, and I don’t think anyone is arguing that they don’t have the right to change their own hardware. It’s just a bad decision.
“Should” is a pretty big risk considering the consequences
Well, I’m over 40, so I know a bit about WW2.
Mostly from the documentaries I fall asleep to in the afternoons.
You can get a lot of hamburgers from a cow, but only two breasts from a chicken.
That means for every two chicken breasts you eat, one chicken dies.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft wants to replace its entire C and C++ codebase, perhaps by 2030English
1·4 months agoBut when your boss tells you that you have to keep doing it this way, then you don’t have much choice in the matter. You either keep asking AI for new code and hope it gets it right, or you have to actually delve into the code and spend your time correcting it.
The 1 million lines of code is just untenable, assuming they want code that actually works.

Technology@lemmy.world•Microsoft wants to replace its entire C and C++ codebase, perhaps by 2030English
4·4 months agoLLMs are - by the nature of how they work - only able to achieve 90-95% accuracy. That’s the theoretical best they can do, according to the people behind OpenAI. And worse, it will be presented as 100% accurate, even going so far as to make up sources wholecloth.
That’s an insane and completely unacceptable error rate for any system even pretending to be mission critical.
Can you imagine sending people to space with a system that has a 1 in 20 chance of just being completely unfit for service?

Is it?
I feel like people have had toddlers and dog bowls for a long time, and that people in the past have been ableto keep certain things away from water successfully. Perhaps if you have increased opportunities to get the phone wet, you should take extra precautions.
