In the united states these rights are seen as given by a higher power and administered by the government. With the belief that if the government fails to administer them individuals may pursue them by other means
actually that’s how it works in a lot of places. the government is just the organization that tries to realize the ideals that were already there in the population before the government existed. the government is just the one trying to make them real. if the government fails to do its job, somebody else does it instead.
there is literally a whole philosophy around the concept that the “state is the reality of the good idea”, where “god” is often understood to be the set of “all good ideas”. so, in other words, the state is seen as the reality of god. you can read literally antique philosophy about this; the view is that old. IIRC it was plato who discussed this, but i could be wrong. could have also been aristotle.
You’ll probably also save a decent amount on groceries, so that’s a bonus!
Unfortunately, red meat is subsidized in the US so that it’s dirt cheap, so it’s often a “budget” option for poorer households. This is despite the well-known health downsides of red meat consumption. Red (cow, pig) meat consumption leads to high blood pressure, which can shorten lifes.
It should also be mentioned that excessive meat (especially red meat) consumption is probably not healthy and causes cardiovascular disease. So, everybody has a personal interest in eating less meat.
The biggest most glaring problem we have is a BILLIONAIRE CLASS that think they can manage, manipulate and control an entire planet and its people
If you remove one CEO from office, another one would take their place, because that’s the rule of the game. CEOs have a fiduciary duty to maximize the company’s profits as much as possible, so if you replace a CEO by another, they would (have to) behave the same way.
We need to change the rules of the game, instead of changing the individuals on the playing field. We need to change the laws sothat they grant the common people greater prosperity and ensure sustainability. We need to pressure politicians instead of CEOs.
Just that in today’s world, CEOs are in bed with politicians, so i guess pressuring either would do the same thing.
the deposit is the keep young, inexperienced and glowy-eyes people from making commitments they don’t have the stamina to handle.
it happens a lot that 20 year olds want to buy a house with their new partner that they think they’re gonna be together with for the rest of their lives, only to have it all fall apart 5 years later. forcing to you save up a bit before actually buying the house means you go through a lot of experiences before you actually buy a house, which makes it more likely that you’ll have the far-sightedness that’s needed to actually buy a house. :)
Actually i guess the bigger issue is that we’re gonna be unemployed in 15 years due to a declining demand of human labor and then who pays back what?
Today you could afford the pay-back rate, but not in the future, and the banks are well aware of that.

i hope that lots of people will realize that the dead internet theory is actually becoming true due to AI bots and move away from the internet in general.
We need less internet, more regional human connections. It would be better if the novelty of the internet wears off and is just seen as yet another advertising machine that shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish26·11 days agonow while at first view, your sentiment is understandable, i actually kinda differ.
when you buy any product at any store, i believe that there has to be a legal entity behind the store that sells you this product, and the legal entity needs to be identifiable. i.e. if you run a shop and give packages to people, you need to show ID to open up that shop. i believe it is the same for charity organizations which give away packages for free.
now, why would it be different for apps? apps are software packages, and if they’re given away, there should be a legal entity behind it that is identifiable. this isn’t to surveil or suppress people, it’s just how business has always been done, and for good reason so. businesses need legal representatives to operate, even if it’s a charity, because otherwise there’s nobody to “talk to” when there’s issues, and also imposters would have an easy game.
that doesn’t mean that you can’t donate packages away on the streets. just put it in front of your front door and wait until somebody passes by and takes it, or give it directly into the hands of your friends, you don’t need to open a business for that. just, if you do it regularly, interacting with people you don’t personally know, there is a legal entity that represents that recurring activity, like a business or charity.
If i understand it correctly, even with the new changes, what can be done is that open software distribution sites like F-Droid can sign the packages instead of the original developers and therefore circumvent the identification of the original developers, and also you can still install unsigned third-party apps if you enter a command on the command line to disable ID certificate checking. it’s just an extra step, not a block-all.

Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish7·11 days agonot every android phone’s hardware even allows installing custom ROMs, as far as i’m aware of. and even if the phone technically does allow it, that doesn’t mean that any good custom ROMs are even available for it. so the issue is a bit more difficult than that.
gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwed - Louis RossmannEnglish11·11 days agothem bringing it up again and again is a very significant problem. Imagine you’re spending time with a girl and asking her to have sex with you. She says “no”, and you simply keep asking her daily until she says “yes” once, probably because she’s just not paying attention to your actual question on that day. Such a behavior would be recognized by most people as being improper, immoral and not in the spirit of “consent”.
Now, the same is happening on the EU. They keep asking the same question after they already got an explicit answer, and such a behavior should be illegal by itself. No means No.

The problem is that wages are only like 30% of the cost of a product. The rest is materials and company profit.
If wages drop to zero because AI does it, then yes, the cost of products is also gonna drop, but only by 30%, while your wages drop by 100%. You see the issue: decreasing purchasing power. Maths.
well actually, even if your job is safe from AI, AI is still gonna affect your wages a lot.
if AI takes some jobs, the demand for human labor overall decreases, so the prices for human labor (a.k.a. wages) decreases by the rule of supply and demand. now, this affects your wages no matter which job you work, because these laid-off workers are gonna flood into your field and now there’s more supply of potential workers in your field which is gonna lower wages for you.
I gotta remember that one phrase :)
