ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•How big a solar battery do I need to store *all* my home's electricity? - Terence EdenEnglish31·1 day agoActually, yes. Lifting the weight of a Toyota Camry 2 stories seems reasonable for a day’s worth of energy storage for a house.
I’m not sure how expensive the lift and generator will be, but the weight itself can be anything that’s sufficiently heavy.
You say chemical energy is way easier to store, but is it really easier and cheaper to store the energy needed for a home in a chemical battery?

“That’s why you’ll never see thousands of them going down a highway at 80 miles an hour.” -1920s idiot who needs to get their crystal ball checked.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Flying cars crash into each other at Chinese air showEnglish6·2 days agoWe don’t have flying cars because technology has not progressed enough to make it economically viable for the masses.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Why is the name of the Microsoft Wireless Notebook Presenter Mouse 8000 hard-coded into the Bluetooth drivers?English51·2 days agoThanks, Legal Department
Another reason why I have 0 respect for anyone working in legal departments for businesses. They are unnecessary and make things worse to justify their existence.

Sorry, this is just a funny statement.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Get ready to see ads on your… Samsung refrigeratorEnglish172·2 days agoAdvertising should be illegal.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Get ready to see ads on your… Samsung refrigeratorEnglish181·2 days agoAll the useful idiots wasting their money on this crap are getting exactly what they deserve.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•How big a solar battery do I need to store *all* my home's electricity? - Terence EdenEnglish111·2 days agoHow come we can’t design energy storage that lifts something heavy when there’s excess power, and lets it fall to generate electricity when needed?
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Campaigners urge EU to mandate 15 years of OS updatesEnglish2·2 days agoGood.
If we’re going to pretend corporations are people, then we should treat them like slaves.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Campaigners urge EU to mandate 15 years of OS updatesEnglish1·2 days agoBecause Linux is free software, we can implement the fixes ourselves.
Doing so with Windows or Crapple would literally be illegal.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Campaigners urge EU to mandate 15 years of OS updatesEnglish5·2 days agoThese multi-billion dollar corporations have more than enough resources to provide updates for 15 years.
There’s nothing insane about it, unless you’ve been conditioned to live vicariously through business owners.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Campaigners urge EU to mandate 15 years of OS updatesEnglish3·2 days agoPretty sure Rocky Linux provides updates for 10 years.
It’s not asking too much for multi-billion dollar corporations to provide 15 years of updates.
They have more than enough resources.
ratten@lemmings.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Campaigners urge EU to mandate 15 years of OS updatesEnglish149·2 days agoI have no sympathy for anyone using microsoft products.
