  • Yeah true, I guess I meant more before this recent uptick in memes/criticism. I don’t expect celebrity musicians to be paragons of virtue or fight every political battle for justice but I do expect… something? Like a little bit? Have a spine maybe?

I mean she can do whatever she wants, but that is the point right, she can do whatever she wants she is an unbelievably rich white lady who politicians and other powerful figures can’t touch without risking MASSIVE blowback in public opinion that money and distraction won’t be able to make go away.

  • You can be a pirate with principles.

On the topic, what was the reasoning of the Houthis attacks on the red sea shipping lanes?

It was because they are totally crazy deranged terrorist villains from an 80s action movie right?..or like monomaniacal greed right?

…wait hold on… checks notes … are we the badies?

    shakes cobwebs out of head

Wait no, that can’t be right if we were the badies it would be bad like really bad after all the shit we have done claiming we were righteous about it… like oh no, no no no no I am gonna just stop thinking about it ok?

  • The US is corrupt enough at this point the only thing massive corporations have to do to survive is be massive.

Many companies that never even have turned a consistent profit are major players in the US economy.

The idea of valuing actual market competition is a distraction conservatives point to as a cool aesthetic and it has little to do with the economic reality of the US. So long as the right people are in power a dictatorship is totally acceptable to conservatives by and large and the inevitable end result of that as we are seeing are stunning displays of incompetency at the highest levels of power.

  • The problem here is whatever value the US dollar has, it is decreased by the participation of Wyoming, so why would I want to trade US dollars for a currency hinged only on the negative liabilities the US dollar has?

I guess this coin is for those committed to the blooming collapse of the rural US, who cares if it goes belly up if the landscape you live in is so existentially screwed for water, healthcare and livable housing that money won’t be of any use when shit hits the fan anyways.

    How The Mooching Works

In that vein, understanding Wyoming’s finances is important for us to become educated voters.

Wyoming is a very unique state because it figured out a long time ago how to make people from out of state pay our essential taxes. In other words, we mooch off of other taxpayers to pay our bills.

Here’s how the mooching works. According to a 2022 analyis by the Wyoming Economic Analysis Division, a three-person family with an income of $68,000 and owning a home with a value of $320,000 pays about $4,340 in taxes, including sales tax, fuel tax, tobacco tax, alcohol taxes, vehicle registration and property taxes.

That same family recieves about $23,900 in local and state government services.

Some politicians are running around and saying Wyoming should just stop taking federal funds. The obvious question, when faced with the above numbers, is how are you going to replace $3 billion per year when the state stops taking that money?

Before one answers that we don’t need those funds, it might be prudent to see where the state of Wyoming spends those federal dollars.

Remember, some of the funds are direct federal payments that are labeled “federal funds” in the graph above. The federal mineral royalties are included in the “general fund” as well as “other funds,” which are appropriated differently.

Combined, the “federal funds” and “other funds” contributions equal 31% of the state’s budget.

Does this sound like a better holder of value than the US dollar?

  • Further, fear mongering about China’s data center/powergrid infrastructure superiority is also the PERFECT excuse techbros need to rationalize building data centers in parts of the US that are in desperate shortage of water for human beings and with precarious electrical grids that are ready to fail in the middle of the next heatwave.

The US is essentially in a second Civil War and this will be one of the main methods in which people are killed, i.e. purposefully setting up the conditions for people to die in a heat wave and have no water so they are desperate… and the only way people in the US are going to stomach it is if they have been truly convinced they have to accept these brutal conditions “because we are hopelessly behind China and we can’t afford to stop building data centers!!”.

  • It feels like making a car for an international market that is meant for anybody but is locked into one language in the user interface for no good reason and either can’t be changed without overhauling a big part of the car construction process involving somehow parts of the actual powertrain needing to be changed or it is only a moderately difficult process to begin and they haven’t prioritized it which makes me wonder how they establish priorities for creating a car that is useful to as much of the world as possible in the first place

I mean I am thankful for useful FOSS software, and having ANY alternative to microsoft office, especially a functional free option is amazing… it is just… come on LibreOffice!!!

Let a cottage community of weird LibreOffice keybinding schemes flourish!!!
