Here’s the slavery speed run:

Step 1 - Mass layoffs + Tariffs lead to mass homelessness. Step 2 - Criminalize homelessness. Step 3 - Arrest/institutionalize the homeless in for profit prisons. Lend inmates to private corporations for forced labor. Step 4 - Profit.

Fun fact: the FOP are implicated in the crack epidemic (bonus points: working with the CIA, so feds and locals!), fent imports (yes, sacklers did it first, but did they do it best worst?), and illegal xanax imports!

Hey, I’ve seen this one before.

Hitler said the EXACT same thing! But they lied!?! They didn’t go to institutions to help rehabilitate them, they killed them in death camps!

I’m so surprised Trump would do the exact same thing! (/s).

The new iPhone factories in America will have the phrase “Arbeit macht frei” written in iron at the entrance.

“Are there no prisons?” asked Scrooge.
    (…)
“And the Union workhouses?” demanded Scrooge. “Are they still in operation?”
    (…)
“The Treadmill and the Poor Law are in full vigour, then?”

Just a reminder this was the most heartless, most horrible man that could be imagined by a truly great author.

He did also follow that up with:

Scrooge: “I help to support the establishments I have mentioned–they cost enough; and those who are badly off must go there.”

The gentleman: “Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.”

“If they would rather die,” said Scrooge, “they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”

And as it turns out the “surplus population” isn’t really their concern, they just don’t want to acknowledge the poor, sick, and otherwise different.

Or the fact that their shareholder profit above all world created these “homeless” and all the drug abuse and lack of mental health services. The billionaires, corporations and politicians will do anything to avoid personal responsibility for their actions

Also, why focus on preventing homelessness by, you know, making housing affordable when instead you can just lock them all up or better yet, kill them all? Don’t tell me that this isn’t a wet dream fantasy for most gop politicians

We have the largest prison system in the world per capita four times over. You can thank senator Joe Biden for that. We’re already the United prison systems of America.

The prison industrial complex was the status quo long before Biden was even born. Why limit it to him? Blame Nixon and Reagan for both the drug epidemic and the criminalization of drug possession (accounting for something like 40% of the current prison population), and the near collapse of mental health and rehabilitation programs. Blame Clinton for enabling the corporations to grow even richer off of slave labor.

    But not its root causes

Ohhh so close. It’s the thing John Oliver can’t say but gets a little closer to saying each night.
