I mean, that’s how it works for stuff that’s rusted shut. But you’re right that an acid, even vinegar, would be way more effective. And non-toxic in the case of vinegar.

Yep. Plumbing guy at Lowe’s gave me much the same tip to break up a clogged valve thing, forget what it’s called.
