First of all, not a shit post.

People only hate the pedos they dislike.

Disagree. You mentioned MJ and Epstein. There is a huge amount of victims, witnesses, monetary transactions and evidence (e.g. pictures) about Epstein being a pedophile. For MJ being a pedophile there’s only a fraction of that.

I personally do not care for MJ. People like his music but I don’t really. It’s easier for me to see Epstein as a pedophile because there is just so much more corroborating evidence, and way harder to see MJ that way. Do I believe he’s not? Not really, I haven’t looked that deep into it and I heard this before a few times. But I’m not say someone is a pedophile without evidence. If they’re wrongly accused, that’s fucked up. And ultimately, he’s dead and there’s no real evidence and no suggestions he was part of a wider circle of other perpetrators.

On the other hand Epstein is dead, but there’s other people who helped him or committed crimes themselves. So we should concentrate on those, so that the victims get justice and the perpetrators which do still live get tried and convicted. And especially make sure ghislaine Maxwell, who is convicted and got an insane deal has to face more consequences and finally gives up names so we can start demanding trials for all of the others involved.

Basically, it’s never a “I hate Epstein but not MJ” thing, it’s just that we can address whatever Epstein did, and that is important and there’s lots to go on, but we kinda can’t do it with MJ unless there’s more evidence, there’s likely more perpetrators or there’s more victims coming forward, and I haven’t heard any of that.

      No, my point still stands.

If Trump publicly admitted that he sees nothing wrong with having sleepovers with non-related prepubescent children and sleeping with them, he’d rightfully be labeled a pedophile, because people hate him.

But people like MJ’s music, so despite the plethora of “in your face” evidence, they defend him using the same arguments that conservatives use for Trump. Frankly, any MJ defense argument could be made for Trump.

I’m beyond disappointed in the so-called “progressive” Lemmy space and will never be able to take political discussions seriously here again after witnessing this attitude. It is pure hypocrisy and double standards, and disgusting pedophile and child abuse apologia that delegitimizes and loses all credibility for any future discussions on the topic.

SI-unit of energy with a prefix for millions.

      The energy required to heat 10 L of liquid water at constant pressure from 0 °C (32 °F) to 100 °C (212 °F) is approximately 4.2 MJ.

The first really known american child molester. He got off the hook every time though.

      He danced and sang pop.

Lemmy: MJ was actually protecting kids from Epstein by hosting and sleeping with them at his ranch.

Conservatives: Trump was actually protecting kids from Epstein by being an informant.

First of all, what are you on about?

      Second

MJ was actually protecting kids from Epstein by hosting and sleeping with them at his ranch.

How is this not a bit? This seems extremely unlikely to be a sincere belief by whoever made this statement.

Edit: third, am I taking a shitpost too seriously?

Nah I did see someone believing that in the comments of the thread. There’s a Snopes article debunking it, which is how you know a lot of people believe it.

So how did you come about the conclusion that they are “progressives”? I am really curious as to why you are mixing politics with this.

Lemmy is a predominantly progressive platform. Which made seeing so much MJ apologia very disappointing and unexpected.

There’s a conspiracy floating around that Jackson became aware of the human trafficking to the ultrawealthy and he was smeared and possibly killed for it. No real evidence but it’s a fun one to think about.

This is not something I wouldn’t consider "fun to think about.

          Also, damn that got heated.

I mean its entirely possible. I struggle to believe there are that many people who are rich+powerful and also nonces. I really do believe that once you reached a certain level of influence you were told “WE run this world, youre either in or out.” And we’ll never be able to separate for sure whos a poor-little-rich-guy and whos an awful awful awful excuse for a human.

Only silver lining in MJ case is that hes already dead. We dont need to worry about it so much there.

That’s a fascinating conspiracy theory, but I think the most likely explanation is greed on behalf of the accusers, or their parents.
